Local boy DS Ben Jones is a mine of information for his boss DCI Barnaby when a reclusive elderly couple are murdered in their home and a spate of killings appears to be linked to both a fatal road accident and the disappearance of a teenager 20 years earlier. A bitter struggle over plans to demolish homes in a road development ensues, and wild pronouncements from the local psychic ensure tensions in the village of Dunstan remain at fever pitch.
